Finding Your Happy Place in 2017
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live in one of the happiest cities in America?
Travel nurses have the unique ability to move to whatever state they want. If they don’t like it there, they can always travel somewhere new in 13 weeks. This unique advantage puts travel nurses in a prime position to find their ultimate happy place, no matter where that is. But what makes one place happier than another?
What Makes a Place Happy?
A recent study done by WalletHub attempted to determine the happiest US cities to live in for 2017. They researched 150 cities and compared them across 3 different factors: Emotional & Physical Well-being, Income & Employment, and Community & Environment.
Important Factors in Achieving Happiness
When assessing Emotional & Physical Well-being, the WalletHub study looked at things like depression, suicide rates, obesity, and levels of heart disease. Quality of sleep was also an important factor, as was the number of opportunities for sports and recreational activities.
Income & Employment factors included income growth rate and the average time people spend commuting. It also considered important things like how secure people felt in their jobs and their overall job satisfaction.
Community & Environment scores were influenced by the percentage of days with ideal weather, average amount of leisure time spent, and the number of attractions available. Rates of separation & divorce were also considered.
In the end, the study revealed that 4 out of the top 5 cities to live in were in sunny California (Check out our California Destination Page to learn why!) Also, a major shout out to Sioux Falls for representing all those happy South Dakotans out there!
