Outdoor escapades. Clean mountain air. Beautiful natural sights. Delicious restaurants around every corner. These are just a few of the reasons that travel nurses choose to take their nursing careers to the fabulous state of Colorado. Obtaining a nursing license in Colorado or getting a renewal is the first step to travel nursing in the Centennial State.

Both experienced RNs and those newer in their careers may be wondering how to get a Colorado nurse license?

When Applying for a Colorado Nursing License, You Should...

For nurses interested in travel nurse opportunities in Colorado, the first thing to do is visit the Colorado Board of Nursing website. A nurse will find all of the information needed for a Colorado License including applying for a new license, renewal, verification, and more.

A license for nurses in Colorado can be obtained via examination or endorsement. An examination is for new licensees who do not have an active RN license in another state. An endorsement is for nurses who hold an active license in another state.

The fees are:

  • Examination = $135
  • Endorsement = $90

Nurses need the following documents to obtain a Colorado RN license:

  • Completed application
  • Affidavit of Eligibility Form
  • Copy of an active license
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship

As part of the Colorado nursing license application process, nurses will also need to answer a variety of screening questions. Some of these licensing questions will include questions related to criminal history and/or pending complaints filed and questions about the number of hours a nurse has practiced nursing.

Colorado Nursing License Renewal - What You Need to Know

Nurses who already hold a nursing license in Colorado need to be aware of license expiration. Online License Renewal does not open until approximately 4-6 weeks prior to the Colorado state nursing license expiration date. After that, a nurse can complete the renewal process online.

Nurses should note that there is a $108 fee for nursing license renewal.

RNs who have let their Colorado license expire or lapse need to apply for reinstatement.

Colorado Is A Nursing Compact State

Colorado is proud to be a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). According to the NLC, they increase access to care while maintaining public protection at the state level. Under the NLC, nurses can practice in other NLC states, without having to obtain additional licenses.

Nurses who live in a state that is not part of the compact and choose to work in Colorado must obtain a single-state license in Colorado. To get a list of all states participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact, click here.

If you are a nurse that is ready to hit the road in a state that is home to 300 days of sunshine, four national parks, and countless adventures to be had, be sure to complete an American Mobile job application to be considered for travel nursing jobs in the state of Colorado.
