Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast with a passion for nature, or you prefer to keep things indoors with great dining, shopping, and museums--Oregon has something for you. This star of the Pacific Northwest region is known for both its beautiful outdoor delights as well as city living.

This coastal state is home to countless forests, mountains, farms, and beaches, making excursions fun and easy for travel nurses on their days off. A visit to the state capital of Salem will bring a rich history lesson and plenty of art to gaze at.

The state’s most famous city is undoubtedly Portland--home to a quirky culture and plenty of breweries, trendy restaurants, and coffee shops. As you can see, there are endless options for entertainment here in “The Beaver State.” If this sounds enticing to you, consider an assignment in Oregon as a travel nurse!

Apply Now for Your Oregon Nursing License

Nurses interested in getting an RN license in Oregon must first get started with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.

There are two primary pathways to a state license:

  • Applying for a license by NCLEX (National Council Licensing Examination) examination
  • Applying by endorsement

Nurses who already hold an active license in another state will apply by endorsement. New nurses who have never been licensed in any US state or jurisdiction will need to take the NCLEX.

As part of the endorsement application, you will need to complete the Oregon state board of nursing license verification process. This will include providing proof of your original state of nurse licensure, and the current or most recent state where you practiced. Most states participate in NURSYS for license verification.

Additionally, you will also need to provide:

  • Social security number
  • Background check/fingerprints
  • Proof of continuing education/hours practiced
  • A completed application and licensing fees ($195 plus an additional $52 for fingerprint processing)

Once everything is successfully submitted for your NCLEX exam application or your endorsement application, you can track your application status using the online portal. Here, you can track your application, fee payment clearance, and more. Although there are a variety of factors that can impact processing times, most applications are processed in 4-6 weeks.

It’s also important to note that you can track the status of your application online! Follow the status of your application (except renewal applications), from the time submitted to OR through licensure.

Is Oregon a Compact Nursing State?

As of right now, Oregon does not issue temporary licenses and does not take part in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). The state is currently pending legislation for NLC. Visit the NCSBN site to see a full list of states participating in the NLC and for more information on the compact.
