This month we’re featuring a caring and hard working nurse that has a passion for his career. Meet Timothy Carroll! Timothy loves to travel and has been everywhere from Bourbon Street in New Orleans, to Houston where he volunteered for the Super Bowl 51. He will also be taking part in a new kind of adventure, as he recently proposed to his girlfriend Keri!
“…through travelling I am able to learn more about nursing as a whole by getting to experience things I normally wouldn’t have had the chance to experience back home.”
Get To Know Timothy
Why or how did you get into nursing?
I got into nursing because of how I was raised. My mother, a nurse as well, taught us 7 kids growing up to do everything we can to care for those in need. As I got older, I realized that this meant more to me than just giving to charity or helping and old lady cross the street. It was when I started to volunteer at the local hospital that I truly realized that nursing was not just what I wanted to do, but it was my calling.
(My mom and dad did a great job instilling the nurturing and caring attitude into us kids, because I’m not the only one in healthcare. I have three sisters who are nurses and a brother who is a doctor.)
What is your favorite thing about being a nurse?
My favorite thing about nursing is meeting all sorts of interesting people from all walks of life, and being able to help get them back to complete health. Caring for my patients, and meeting their families and friends, gives me the opportunity to learn so much about different cultures, religions, ethnicities, and languages. Not only that, but through travelling I am able to learn more about nursing as a whole by getting to experience things I normally wouldn’t have had the chance to experience back home.
Do you have any interesting/crazy travel stories?
Travelling has opened my eyes to so much that this great country has to offer. I’ve had the chance to see places I never thought I would see, and do things I never imagined doing. I have some great stories from my travelling, like being snowed in under 32 inches of snow in 3 days in Baltimore, swimming in the ocean in Florida and enjoying Bourbon street in New Orleans. But really, nothing compares to being able to volunteer and be a part of Super Bowl 51 in Houston. As a football fan (although a big time hater of the NE Patriots), that easily takes the cake as my number one memory so far. But, I have a long road ahead of me, so who knows what will trump that?!
If you could have a superpower what would it be?
I’m a Murse, thats my superpower. But also, teleportation.
What are some of your hobbies?
In what little free time I have, I enjoy cooking, playing guitar, and relaxing at home with an adult beverage or two. I also enjoy being outdoors, playing video games, and just experiencing life.
